Martial arts in China did not originate from Shaolin alone.

The Shaolin Temple in Henan Province, China is not the birth place of Chinese Gung Fu. Neither did Gung Fu come from India. This will be the subject of another piece. We know Chinese martial arts has a history of more than four thousand years.

Shaolin is a tiny dot in the country. We all assume that whenever asked about the origin of a style, it is usually from Shaolin. We have given the impression that the Shaolin Temple is a high security place, where no one leaves until he can tackle the 18 Wooden Men. One of those who failed had to squeeze through a sewage hole.

All these are the product of novels written less than two 200 years ago and we believe their authenticity because Shaw Brothers produced films about them. To make interesting viewing, they added the other moutains, besides Soong, such as Emei, Wudang, Kunlun, Hua Shan and pitted each against another.
